• Hello sweet Mama! Find your quiet spot and be ready to learn from Jesus! Before you begin pray humbly before the Lord and give Him your burdens. Remember that He cares for you and He sees you in your home as you serve your family. Give Him those areas that are difficult for you. He is gentle and humble in heart and He can teach you to be like Him as you serve in your home!

Servanthood

When I think of my identity in Christ, the first thing that comes to mind is my role as a servant. It is one of the most difficult parts of identifying with Christ for me. I have to seek Him daily—asking Him to give me a servant’s attitude like His. I have found that having kids and raising a family has given me a better understanding of Christ’s servant attitude and His great love towards us.

Philippians 2:5-7 says, “Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bondservant, and being made in the likeness of men.”

Motherhood is a choice not unlike the one Christ made—to empty ourselves and to take the form of a servant. This does not mean that we must get rid of everything we are made to be. Motherhood can actually help us find our best selves, becoming who God wants us to be. We are not alone in this journey. We have a perfect example in Christ Jesus. He existed in the form of God but did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped! So we, too, can rest in the beautiful but humbling place that the Lord has for us in motherhood.

Our role as mothers is indeed a humbling experience, even more so as our culture tells us that we have turned our backs on the best part of ourselves by not pursuing careers outside the home. Somehow, our society has brought the task of raising up the next generation down to the lowest choice for women, thinking motherhood is nothing more than wiping noses and bottoms. This is not true, of course, but I do often find myself believing this lie and feeling depressed in the mundanity of life. The Lord has been teaching me how to humble myself before Him and develop a servant’s heart.

Sweet Mama, this comes with a promise! Philippians 2:9-11 goes on to say,

“God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those who are in heaven and under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.”

When we humble ourselves before God in motherhood, we get to be a part of glorifying the name of Jesus! And we too will receive the inheritance of Christ in eternity! I am also reminded of Proverbs 31:28, which says, “Her children rise up and bless her; Her husband also and he praises her, saying; ‘Many daughters have done nobly, but you excel them all.’”

So do not lose heart, precious mama. When you feel like you can’t do one more thing, when you are at the end of yourself, look to Jesus’ perfect example and ask Him to help you serve in your home! Take joy in the fact that your identity in Christ as a servant of the Lord is making an impact on your family and their future in a way that you can’t even see right now.

Faith-Filled Ideas

Ask the Lord to give you an attitude of service in your home. Teach that attitude to your children. Remind them of their perfect example in Jesus. Look for ways to serve together in your home and neighborhood.

I was born and raised in a Christian home in Colorado but I thought thatfollowing the Lord meant doing all of the "right" things. I did not truly surrender my life to Jesus until my early 20's and the Lord has been revealing His love and wisdom to me ever since!
After many years of hoping for a family, God blessed me with a husband and three precious children.
