The Power of Our Testimony

Summer Day 3

“And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life and this life is in His Son.” 1 John 5:11

The Power of Our Testimony

Recently, in my small group, I shared my testimony. It had been awhile since I told anyone how the Lord grabbed a hold of my heart and turned my life around, so it made me nervous to expose that part of my personal history, even in front of friends. But God took all eight of us in the small group, women from such unique lives and experiences, and brought us to the knowledge of His saving grace!

God uses our conversion story and our faith in Christ to help others put their trust in Him as we did. He wants us to tell our story to others, even if it is not as dramatic as that of the Apostle Paul’s or someone else we may know. A paradigm shift happens in our soul when we have a life-changing encounter with the Lord. We should be so filled with awe of our Savior that we share the Good News with everyone we meet! Broadcasting what Jesus has done in our lives is worth celebration and excitement!

Sharing how God has radically transformed us with everyone we meet sounds like an easy task, right? Many will agree that it is not easy at first, that it takes time and courage to review our lives and openly share our transformation with others. Be encouraged, moms, that all you have to do is listen to the Word of God. Reading verses such as 1 Corinthians 2:1-5 will exhort you to trust in the Lord’s power when stepping out in faith! And know that when we share about the place from which God has taken us, ultimate Glory goes to Him (1 Corinthians 1:26-31).

When we act in obedience, we will not only glorify God and influence others, but we will also allow our testimonies to become great examples for our children. Speaking about our past compared to our lives with God will illustrate God’s work within us and instruct our children in the way they should go (Proverbs 22:6)!

Go Deeper:

Have you ever shared your testimony with others? If you haven’t, or if it’s been awhile, take some time to ask the Lord to refresh your memory. You can start by writing down a few sentences about what you were like before you came to Christ. Then remember how you came to believe in Jesus and how your life has changed since. It should only take three minutes to tell the story of how you came to trust in Jesus.

What’s Next?

Salvation creates a transformation in us, and when we tell of what God has done, it will propel us to step out and share the Gospel more. The more we talk about the Lord at home, the easier it is to talk about Him with others. Look for opportunities to share the love of Jesus by sharing your testimony! As you become bolder in stepping out, encourage your children to share Jesus with their friends too!

    1. It isn’t easy Deb! The enemy wants us all to live in guilt & shame of our past “bad” choices that we really do need to trust in the strength of the Lord and His promise that there is no condemnation in those that are in Christ Jesus!
Romans 8:1; “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you FREE from the law of sin and death.”

  1. “The more we talk about the Lord at home, the easier it is to talk about Him with others. Look for opportunities to share the love of Jesus by sharing your testimony too!” That is such a good point. The more we talk about it, the easier it gets.

    1. Deuteronomy 6:7;
“You should teach them (God’s Words) diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in the house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.”

  2. Oh yes! I love this Rae Ellen!! Sharing our testimony with helps us remember the miracles God performed in our lives, and fans the flame for others to believe He will do the same for them! Beautiful study, thanks for this!

    1. Thanks Kristall- I love our friendship too! Don’t you think the Lord draws us closer when we realize we are all sinners and all need the love and prayers of the body of Christ to keep us keeping on!

    1. Thanks Meagan :). God loves us all so much and has great plans for us- we just need to yield to Him and His plan for our lives! Sharing where we once were lets others know they are normal and not forgotten or too “sinful” for God to rescue them too!

  4. This is such a beautiful study Rae Ellen! Thank you for encouraging us to allow God to use our testimony to pour His love out to others!

    1. Thanks Tara! I am so built up in my heart when I hear how God changes hearts and brings people to His saving grace through acceptance of His son Jesus! We should all be willing to use our “past” to share how wonderful and loving our Heavenly Father is!
