The Living Word of God

Word of God Day 6

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart”
~ Hebrews 4:12

“Sir, my concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God’s side, for God is always right.”
~ Abraham Lincoln

• Find a prayer partner, someone who will pray for you and with you each week. Pray and ask God to help you choose. If you don’t have someone who can make that commitment, simply call a different friend each week. Call your prayer partner for your 10 Minute Prayer Call today. Keep trying to connect until you are able to pray together. Prayer is powerful!
• It’s time to meet with your Jesus! Take the time to light a candle, get something hot to drink, and breathe deeply the love of God. Tell Jesus three things that you love about His character–(Jesus, you are so loving, faithful and oh, so kind to me) and three things for which you are thankful–(Jesus, blessings, marriage, children, answered prayers–anything that’s on your heart).
• Read Hebrews 4:12-13 and write verse 12 in your journal. Ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you as you read His Word.

The Living Word of God

Do you see the truth right before your eyes here in God’s Word? God does not hide His truth from us. He wants good things for His children, so He gives us His holy Word. It is His eternal Truth that guides, convicts, and reveals what is good for our souls. God’s Word is alive, so each time we choose to meditate on God’s true, penetrating Word, we allow ourselves to be convicted of the deepest, most cavernous sin and ignorance that exists in our hearts.

Because of pride, fear, wounds, or the need for control, we are often unaware of the most deeply rooted sin in our lives. This sin is often extremely deep and painful and requires the sharpest, finest instrument, which in the hands of the Master Surgeon, will cut away all that holds us back from Him. His Word and Truth will usher us into the life God has for us. This true and rich life is available when we allow our loving Father to remove all that holds us back, forgive us, and replace it with His love and will for our life.

We can give our sin and our hearts to God. He knows us better than we could ever know ourselves and loves us infinitely more than we could ever imagine.

Our precious Savior, the lover of our souls and bearer of our sins says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest in your souls,” (Matthew 11:28-29).

May we all allow the Word of God to cut away the weariness of sin from our hearts today, as we ponder his truth and allow the Master Surgeon, to forgive our sins, heal our hearts, and bring us closer to Him.

Questions to Ponder

• How is the Holy Spirit speaking to you today? Are there areas of your life or sins that you are not submitting to Christ? Ask God to help you obey him, ask for the strength to confess, seek His forgiveness and turn away from sin in your life.

Faith-Filled Ideas

Download a recording app on your phone, or purchase an inexpensive voice recorder. Record this verse Psalm 119:105 (NASB): “Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light to my path.”

Play the recording over and over until you have it memorized. Have your children join in and give them a simple little prize when they learn it too! Children are sponges and can learn anything when they are young. I always rewarded my children when they memorized scripture, and I considered the money spent on rewards as my investment in their hearts and relationships with God.

  1. Thank you for this messege! I love how you quoted Matthew 11:28-29. He will give us rest for our souls. After I read Hebrews 4:12, I read the beginning of the chapter. What stood out to me was verse 7, where it says,”Today if you hear my voice, do not harden your hearts.” He is speaking to us today, convicting us of our sins and providing a better way to live our lives. We can enter his rest Today if we do not harden our hearts and obey when we hear him speak. Our God is so loving and faithful! <3

    1. Yes! That’s such a great point Jennifer!! I pray that my heart will always be soft for the things of the Lord!

  2. I’ve sat here staring at the blinking line forever, trying to think of how to word this. I guess I’m just going to say that I truly need to pray on whom to choose to come along side of me as I pray for my family, etc. I turn 40 this month and feel like I’m more confused than ever on how to walk through this season in our lives. Granted, there are a lot of factors, but I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t have the time or energy for multiple different opinions, especially opinions that aren’t weighted in solid scripture (not scripture taken out of context). If that makes sense. My favorite part of Day 3? Matthew 11:28-29- (NKJ) Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. SOOOOOOO ready for rest. <3

    1. Sweet Nancy, Each season has its own set of challenges. I understand completely how it feels to feel like you should have more wisdom and clarity in your life. God leads us faithfully through each season of life. I am not someone who I would say “excels” at the changing seasons, but I can say with all honesty that I know that God was/is with me through every one of them! I will pray that you will feel the Lord’s love for you today.

      1. Thank you for sharing Nancy! I love being part of a group where people are open to sharing their struggles, even when they think they should have things figured out already. It reminds me that I’m not doing this study and mom tips to become like Deb or Mari Jo. We’re all studying and working together to become like Jesus. I’m just following the path that other wise women have already taken in their journey.

        1. I believe this is one of my Biggest weaknesses. Wanting to be as wise or put together as other women. I am very guilty of being jealous. Seeing how far and wise they are in their walk with Jesus and how much I still have to learn. The perfect lives I see through my eyes on Sunday, seeing their husbands sit next to them while in church (my husband does not go and has not had the amazing blessing of having Jesus in his heart) and their children, all dressed and excited to be there. It is just so difficult some sunday mornings getting up and out the door with two littles while dad gets to stay home. Its a temptation than to just stay home. To think well he isn’t going why should I? It’s also hard to live out life day by day in the word of God. It’s difficult being the only one! It’s just plain hard!! Many, many days I am just ready to throw in the towel. But than that feeling comes. That amazing feeling that I believe is the holy spirit!! I than am reminded that I AM the only one! The one that NEEDS to be the shining light to show others that this way of life is worth it! If I am not living for Jesus, how will my husband and my children learn to do so? That feeling is what helps me. It helps me to pray for myself. Not in a selfish way, but in a way that will help me to show others God’s love.

          1. Kayla, I am so sorry for your struggle. I actually know a lot of women in your shoes. I do feel incredibly thankful that my husband is following the Lord, as well as children who love to go to church, although I do I have one son who has rejected everything who is an adult. Just keep focusing on you, and what God calls you to do. Love your husband and children well, right where they are, and know that God will reward your faithfulness! Don’t quit running the good race! <3

          2. I completely agree with Nancy, Kayla! I heard it said once like this, ” Focus on your own walk with God and leave everybody else to God.” So, focusing on your walk means you go to church, take the children and trust that God will work. I am so proud of you for your commitment to Jesus and to the Help Club. I loved your pic on Facebook so much! It shows your beautiful heart for God! Trust Him. He will work in your life in ways that will be exceedingly and abundantly MORE than you could ask or imagine. (Ephesians 3:20)

  3. Beautiful Deb! I love how you wrote that the Word cuts away ignorance in our hearts. When I stay away from God’s word because of busyness or the cares of this world, I become ignorant with out realizing it! His Word keeps me from drifting like an anchor.

I’m probably tempted the most in my thought life. It’s easy to give in to lies when I’m not thinking on Truth according to the Word of God. He always has something true to say that can counter those false thoughts! Also it really helps when I remember that not every bad thought that I think is from myself, but can actually be the enemy disguising himself by speaking in first person. I’m grateful for God’s Word, it lights my path!

    1. I feel the same way Mari Jo! Sometimes when I know I am not doing what I should be doing, I can feel like I need to hide from God and His Word. He is the EXACT person we should be going to when we are sinning. He loves us so much and wants to help us. All He wants us to do is to surrender. 🙂

      1. Amen, Tara! The need for control gets me into trouble EVERY time! Why is it so hard to simply give up control and trust God with everything! He can be trusted! I will simply keep trying and I know that God will be faithful to finish the work He has started in me! 🙂
