Affirming Self-Talk

“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”  ~ John 14:26

I am going to admit it, I talk to myself ALL the time. It might not be out loud (people would probably think I am crazy on so many levels!) but it is pretty constant. Before I had Charlie, our 18 month old little guy, I remembered things really well. I could multitask with the best of them and never miss a beat! Now I hear myself saying to people, “Did I already tell you that?” I just don’t seem to remember all of the details for all of the things anymore! Can you relate?

If I just let my mind go, I can become pretty negative and find myself anxious and living in fear at the drop of a hat. I have to constantly check my thoughts about what I am saying to myself. When I actually still my mind and think about what I am saying to myself, I can replace the negative thoughts with positive, affirming self-talk.

Scripture reminds us of who God is and what He has done many times! We also have the Holy Spirit living inside of us to help us.  The verse above in John tells us the Holy Spirit will remind us of EVERYTHING.  I also love how Peter says it, “ So I will ALWAYS remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have.” (2 Peter 1:12)

As Christians we know these things, but it is so important to remind ourselves of who God is and what He has done for each of  us. My favorite phrase to remind myself is from Romans 8:31b, “If God is for us, who can be against us?”  ‬‬What comfort this brings.  What peace this brings. What JOY it brings. We have a heavenly, loving Father Who is for us and not against us.

So mama, in the busyness of your days, in the midst of your sleepless nights and anxious thoughts, in your forgetful, overloaded mind, take a moment to think about what you are saying to yourself, still your mind, and remind yourself that God is for you and that He loves you. So very much.

🙏 Pray with me-

Lord, I pray for the mama whose thought life seems out of control. I pray that Your Spirit will remind her of who she is Christ and overwhelm her with Your love.  I pray that You will help her replace her thoughts of fear and anxiety with YOUR thoughts of love, peace and overwhelming joy! In Jesus name I pray. Amen
