Choosing Gratitude

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”-‭‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5:16-18‬ ‭

Are you tired of grumbling? Tired of thinking the world is out to get you? Tired of feeling like you can’t get ahead? Mama, let me whisper something in your ear, “me too” but it doesn’t have to be this way. Sister, I don’t say this lightly, WE CAN change our attitude and choose gratitude!

When Paul and Silas were imprisoned they could have chosen to be angry with God, but instead they chose to praise the Lord and it set them free! Their attitude moved the jailer and his family to believe in Jesus and ultimately it changed their lives! When I felt like I was in my own prison, fearing what the day would bring and that I wouldn’t make it through… A dear friend encouraged me when I woke up in the morning to set my foundation for the day with the Lord. Little did I know how life changing this simple act would be! Now when I wake up I go to Jesus in prayer and say something like, “Lord, I’m not going to walk in fear today, I’m going to rejoice in all you have for me, good or bad. I know the enemy wants to knock me down, but today I CHOOSE to praise you Father!”

Sweet friend, keep it simple, but go to Him and shut down the enemy’s attempt to keep you in prison. Be like Paul & Silas and praise Him in that place!  Today, when I wake- I don’t fear, I walk in assurance of what God has for me each day.  Making gratitude my foundation for the day!

Mama, only the Lord could make this change in my heart.  Allow me to encourage you to give Him a blank canvas to work with by keeping an ongoing list of the things you feel grateful for throughout the day so you can go back and remind yourself! Slowly but surely you will feel your heart fill with more thankfulness than grumbling. You will see blessings instead of what feels like curses. You will rejoice in what you have instead of what you lack. You will live in the will of God praising Him for all life’s ups and downs and that sweet friend, is the sweetest place to be!

  1. Rae, that was beautiful. This is a good reminder that we should all give thanks to our Lord. We are so thankful that we’re Christians and pray together daily.
