Day Four: Grow with Your Baby

When you watch your little one grow outside the womb, you will quickly see that your children can expose the best and worst parts of your character. All of who you are rises to the surface and sometimes it’s not pretty- but rest assured, it’s normal!

What we take in highly effects what we give out- this is especially true in motherhood! Just as we nurture and nourish our bodies in pregnancy for our little one to yield a healthy baby, we need to take time to nourish our souls. Preparing for your baby to come is as much physical as it is spiritual. As mamas, we will overflow whatever we put in. You will realize. or maybe you already have realized, that you need good, healthy inputs as a new mom! Negativity and bad “advice” somehow run rampant when people spy a growing baby belly!

During your time of growing this baby, grow in the Lord! Take in the grace that He has to offer you- joyful, uplifting encouragement for your journey ahead. As a mom, you will be the representation of God’s goodness to your little one. You will be an example of Him to your child in a way that no one else can- loving them wholly and completely. While this is a beautiful truth, it’s also a high calling! When we keep Jesus at a distance and choose instead to take in what the best books, blogs, or Instagram influencer has to say, we will quickly find their “waters” will run dry and we will find ourselves overwhelmed.

“Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” John 7:38 (NIV)

On the contrary, the closer we are to Jesus, the more He can speak in us and through us for our children, all the while refining our own character as a woman. His waters never run dry- He has an endless supply for us to overflow to our children if we will just simply be with Him. He gives us His wisdom not only for our day and how to be a godly mama -or give us the grace to get through periods of exhaustion- but He also gives us perspective and clear lens to see what to pray for, how to discipline, how to love, and how to see our children like He does.

“Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation.”1 Peter 2:2 (NIV)

Devote yourself to sit at the feet of Jesus each day- learn from Him, grow in your faith, and be tuned in, mama. It will be the most precious gift you can give to your baby!

“I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow. So neither he who plants not he who waters in anything, but only God, who makes things grow.” 1 Corinthians 3:6-7 (NIV)
