Day Five: Real Friendship is Not a Clique

“One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” Proverbs 18:24

Choosing friends wisely can be difficult. I understand that friendship can be confusing in junior high and high school and sometimes even a source of hurt and frustration. I don’t know where you are exactly with your friend group, but can I encourage you with a few words? If you have to act differently or treat others in a way that makes you feel guilty, then I’m sure the people you are hanging out with do not strengthen your faith.

Jesus desires for you to be a light. He is so proud to see you remain true to yourself. Do not change who you are to fit the mold of friends you are currently spending time with. Don’t accept friendships that hurt you or others. You are loved and valued! True friends don’t repeatedly disappoint you. Real friends champion what you are interested in and encourage you.

Sweet girl, if you are struggling tonight with a friend or a group of friends, turn to Jesus. He knows what’s going on in your life. He had many friends, and one of His closest ultimately betrayed Him. I promise, if you disconnect from these friends, it will be for the best.

Reflection:

What is the state of your friendships? Then, ask yourself, “Should I hang out with these people?”

Love, Rachel
