For Such a Time as This

“And who knows whether you have not come into the kingdom for such a time as this?” Esther 4:14 (ESV).

Even though the calendar has turned and ushered in a new year, I still find myself confused. Everything seems backward and disjointed like the reflections in a fun-house mirror. Right now, it doesn’t feel like it is well with my soul.

Ways and traditions that seemed so permanent and settled are vanishing like grains of sand washed away by the power of the salty surf. I look at my children and I wonder what will become of them in these unprecedented times, perhaps you are wondering the same.

I beg you, dear mothers, not to fear for your kids simply because they are going to grow up in a world you don’t recognize. Try and remember that God created them and placed them where they are “for such a time as this”.

Do me a favor, take a minute to look at your children. They could have been born in any time in history and God chose them for “this” time. The Lord has known them and their purpose on this earth since he tossed the first stars into the nighttime sky. They are not a mistake or an accident, and we, as mothers, need to be raise them with this extraordinary knowledge.

Raise them to not walk in fear, but in their God-given power and authority. Teach them to walk through this world knowing God is in control. Empower them to know that they have a purpose and they can change the world! If they become confused and dismayed about what is happening around them, remind them of the sovereignty of God.

God knew that Deborah could lead an army, that Daniel could survive the lion’s den, that David would defeat Goliath, and that Esther would save her people. Rather than being scared for your children, you should rejoice! Be honored that God has chosen “you” to parent this generation that is facing some of the biggest challenges of our lifetime.

They were made for this!

Mamas rise up to the challenge. Raise up Deborahs, Daniels, Esthers, and Davids. The Lord isn’t surprised with what is happening today. He doesn’t scratch his head and wonder what will happen with the messes we have created. Jesus is rising up an army with this generation; an army designed to revel the truth of the gospel and to push back the darkness.

Sweet sisters, I know you look at your babies and you don’t see a warrior, but God does. Don’t allow your own fears to steer them away from the greatness God has placed on them. I know you want to protect them, but remember they were brought into the kingdom for such a times as this!

Praising our Savior through it all,

Susie and the Help Club for Moms Team
