I Am God’s Child

“But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn, not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.” John 1:12-13 (NLT)

“We may be insignificant and contemptible in our own eyes and in the eyes of others, but the truth remains that we are the children of God. He has actually given His angels charge concerning us, and they watch over us and have us in their keeping.” George Q. Cannon

  • It’s time to call your prayer partner! Make it quick if you must, but having a friend to pray with you and for you is one of life’s greatest blessings.
  • Sweet mama, do you know just how deeply God loves you? Before you were born, He chose you to be His cherished daughter. As His child, you are highly favored! Come, know Him: Be changed in His Presence.
  • Read John 1:1-14 and 1 Peter 1:19-21. As you read, remember: Jesus was present with God at the creation of the world. He was God’s plan of redemption from the very beginning. The precious blood of Jesus, the Lamb without spot or blemish, was foreordained to save all people who put their faith in Him.

I Am God’s Child

How easy it is to allow the good things in our lives, rather than Christ, to become the core of our identity—our children, a beautiful home, our grand-babies, an expensive education, or even health, exercise, money, and relationships. There are many more experiences, ideas, and belongings that have the ability to steal the seat of our heart until they become our silhouette, what we are known for. Sometimes, we comfortably allow bad circumstances and trials in our everyday lives to stamp and define our individuality as well. What we give attention to, we empower.

My friend, who defines you? What have you embraced to help create who you are today? Pay attention to who and what these are. Personal wounds have a way of stamping false imprints upon the cell-blocks of our DNA. These fake identities speak lies, telling us we are someone we are not! They form pseudo personalities that keep us from entering into God’s good destiny. In this way, Satan tries to sabotage our true identity.

Are you feeling lost, broken and hopeless today? Do you want or long for a brand new you? Jesus came for this very reason: to give you an identity that is whole, lacking nothing. His power and love deliver us from the Kingdom of darkness and brings us into the Kingdom of light! Jesus holds the ability to change you from the inside out. Your purpose and destiny through Him was God’s plan before He ever entered into the world as a baby. Jesus came to save!

Have you surrendered to God’s plan for your life? Have you allowed Jesus to become the true source of all that you are? If not, there is no better time than the present.

We begin the journey of finding our true identity the moment we believe in Jesus and ask Him to live in us. A relationship with Him sets us on the right path! In the same way we talk to a friend or husband, we can talk to Him. The Spirit of Jesus (The Holy Spirit) was sent to make His home in your heart (John 14)! John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Do you believe? Jesus died and took upon Himself the sins and wounds of the whole world. He took your place of judgement so you could live a prosperous life, not just in the future but also right now! The everlasting life He offers brings an eternal destiny more fulfilling than anything you can imagine! Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT) says, “For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

Dear mama, can you dare to believe this awesome truth? Can you exchange your identity for His? Let God change who you are today: then, let Him finish the job.

I love the beautiful words to the song, “No Longer Slaves” (by Brian Johnson, David Helser & Joel Case).

You unravel me with a melody
You surround me with a song
Of deliverance from my enemies
’Til all my fears are gone

From my mother’s womb
You have chosen me
Love has called my name
I’ve been born again
Into your family
Your blood flows through my veins

I am surrounded
By the arms of the father
I am surrounded
By songs of deliverance
We’ve been liberated
From our bondage

We’re the sons and the daughters
Let us sing our freedom

You split the sea
So I could walk right through it
My fears were drowned in perfect love
You rescued me
And I could stand and sing
I am a child of God…

Yes, I am
I am a child of God
I am a child of God
Yes, I am
I am a child of God
Full of faith
Yes, I am a child of God
I am a child of God

Blessings and Love,

Mari Jo

Questions to Ponder

  • What are some of the things you have embraced to help form your identity outside of Jesus? Write them down. Are you willing to surrender these areas and bring them under His lordship? Why or why not?

Faith-Filled Ideas

Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal His personal identity to you. If He doesn’t reveal it to you right away, keep asking and don’t get discouraged. He will reveal it in time. Ask Him to help you lay aside pseudo identities you have picked up and embraced over the years. Let go of the old, and prepare to receive God’s new and best.

If you have never fully surrendered your life to Jesus, pray with me:
“God, I confess I am a sinner. I believe in your son Jesus who died, took all of my sins, and nailed them to the cross so I could have peace with you. I repent of my sinful nature and ask the Spirit of Jesus to come live on the inside of me. Thank you for changing me. I confess that you are now Lord of my life. Reveal yourself to me: I want to have a living, vital relationship with you, God. I now receive the identity you offer. Amen.”

  1. That’s wonderful Elizabeth! God often confirms his word to us three times ( in the mouth of two or three witnesses). 2 Corinthians 13:1 Thanks for sharing!

  2. Amen. I was becoming a person I didn’t want to be because I forgot who I was, and I forgot my identity. I need constant reminders that I am a child of God and ever since I’ve asked got to fix the person I was becoming into the person he wanted me to be I’ve seen the message “I am a child of God” three different times in three different locations. First it was from the bible. Second from church and the third from this online group! I just want to thank God for putting that message on your heart to share because I needed It!

  3. I love this point MariJo: “What we give attention to, we empower.” It’s so important to only give attention to who God says we are and what God says is important! When we choose to think of ourselves in the light of what God says we are, the bad images of ourselves lose their power! Thanks for sharing this wonderful truth today!
