I Surrender to the Helper

“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever‚—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.” John 14:16-17.

It’s been one of those weeks girls. You know the ones where the list of things you didn’t get done is longer than the list of things that did. Let’s just say that Supermom has lost her cape. I can only assume that many of you know what I’m talking about. I try to be all things to all people, but sometimes I need help; or specifically, I need a Helper.

In our main verse for today, Jesus has promised his disciples that when he leaves he’ll send the Holy Spirit, the Helper, the Advocate, to reside with his people. The temple held the holy of holies and God dwelt there, but now God’s people would become individual temples of the Holy Spirit.

If you, too, are in one of those seasons where you admit that you can’t make it alone, please know today, that the Spirit is on your side. Life can be stressful and challenging.  The soil of our lives appears to be producing fruit, but only with the rain of our tears. But the Helper will come alongside you, he lives within you, and inside of you.

Because he’s God, he sees the truest and loveliest versions of you. You don’t have to impress him with your works, he simply loves you because he loves you. The Helper works to bring Scripture, friendships, and perspective to your mind just at the right time. He loves to engage with you and be that still, small voice of comfort that you need during your moments of feeling like you aren’t good enough and that you are making every mistake you could possibly make.

Too many times, we run ourselves ragged trying to help ourselves. Unfortunately, we turn to the wrong places for comfort, encouragement, and counsel. It is not our place to be the superhero of our own lives, or the lives of our children. Our calling is to trust the greatest Hero of all. Would you say, “I surrender.” today and allow the Holy Spirit to be your Helper?

Blessings,

Susie and the Help Club for Moms Team
