Kindness- Mom Tips Week One

Kindness Week 1 Mom Tips

“The wise woman builds her house.” Proverbs 14:1a

The Mom Tips are meant to enhance your life and roles as a Christian wife, mom, discipler of your children, homemaker, and friend.

Simply pray about which ideas to try. Keep this list on your fridge all week, and check the tips off as you accomplish them. You can also do more than what is suggested. We all are in different stages of our lives. You do you!

Do what you can and celebrate the fact that you added something new to enhance your life!

The Wise Woman Builds Her Spirit:

  • Take time to tend to your soul! Take a few minutes for an afternoon quiet time two times this week.  Put away the electronics and to-do lists and just take your feet off the floor and unwind. You may be winding down from a long day or gearing up for a busy evening. If you can rest briefly before your husband gets home, you will all have a better evening. Give your children the opportunity to relax too! Let them listen to a fun book on tape or Focus on the Family’s, “Adventures in Odyssey” in their room for a bit while you take a little break. Remember, it is often the mom who sets the tone of the home, and if Mama’s happy, everybody’s happy!   Day One_____  Day Two _____
  • Plan a day where you can enjoy a time of fun exercise with your kids!! Find an opportunity to get out and have fun!  If you live where it’s warm, take a turn on the swings, or go for a family walk or bike ride.  If you live where it’s cold, go play out in the snow and build a snowman! Chances are you’ll feel great after getting outside, and they will enjoy your company.

The Wise Woman Loves Her Husband:

  • Be intentional with your love for your husband this week. The study, “Marriage on the Rock” by Jimmy Evans is very encouraging! One topic the study deals with is the importance of looking for ways to bless your spouse. This week, leave your husband a love note somewhere before he starts his day. Write in dry-erase marker on the bathroom mirror that he’s a great dad. Leave a note by the coffee pot thanking him for something nice he has done lately or slip a note in his lunch box telling him that you see how hard he works and appreciate it. It may come at just the right time when he is in need of a little extra encouragement.
  • Each time you and your husband make love, put a dollar in a jar. On your anniversary or after you’ve saved enough money, empty the jar and use its contents for a special date. Make it your goal to get a little extra money in the jar so you can go somewhere extra special. Whatever you choose to do on your date, it will be even better knowing all the fun you had making it happen.

The Wise Woman Loves Her Children:

  • Write a sweet note to one child. Use it as an opportunity to show how much you appreciate him, or as a means showing compassion or of giving encouragement during a struggle. Try to write one for each child over the next few days, taking the time to pray about what to write. If your child can’t read yet, draw a picture or write a note that you can snuggle up and read together.
  • Take a moment to stop and observe your life. Sit down, even on the floor, and take it all in. Simply watch your children in that quiet moment (quiet because you are not “doing,” not necessarily because the house is quiet – a house filled with children rarely is), and savor the gifts God has given you. Cherish the moment. You might miss too much if you don’t stop and observe sometimes. Commit to memory the experiences and prolong the blessing by writing it down in your journal to look back and remember what your life was like when your children were the ages they are now.

The Wise Woman Cares For Her Home:

  • Let your children help you clean! Assign them household tasks so they can share the load. Decide what works best with your routine: small, daily chores, a weekly day, or a combination of the two. Give all of your children their own responsibilities. Even a child as young as three can help by sorting dirty laundry, putting away clean clothes, gathering trash from each can around the house on trash day, or helping to unload the dishwasher.
  • Plan one day this way to wash and chop veggies and bag them up for the week. Choose fruits or vegetables that your family likes to eat raw. Make it easy to grab a quick, healthy snack!

  1. I have gotten SO many great tips from this study! Most recently, I have started listening to the Bible on audio. I didn’t think I’d like it, but I gave it a try anyway. I’m sticking with it because it has been so helpful. I listen to it first and then reread it. I pick up different things this way. I’ve been listening to it at bed time when I can’t sleep too. 🙂

    1. I love that idea Heather! What a great way to increase your faith!
“So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” Romans 10:17.

  2. The sticky note habit is a great help! In the busyness of any given day it is so easy to forget what is important. If I have truth written on paper right in front of my eyes in the places I find myself most often (the kitchen, car, bedroom) it gives me opportunity to refocus on what matters!

One way I try to show kindness to my family is by having healthy colorful meals ready at predictable times.
Another way is by thinking of small ways to bless individual members of the family and not to look at them only as a group of people I am responsible to care for. Leaving a note on a child’s dresser with a mini treat of some kind is always welcomed. Picking up after my husband who works so hard all day long at the office makes it easier for him to use the little time he does have at home for building into relationships instead of dealing with the organizational things that must be done. Instead of fussing over his piles of stuff I can use the time while I am putting things away to pray for him!
