Mom to Mom with Jennifer Summer of Joy Week Eight

Dear Sister,

Isn’t summer one of the most beautiful times of the year? I love how everything is growing and green and in full bloom. I’m a mom of teenagers now and I can’t help but notice the similarity in them. They have entered an exciting time in life. They are growing up and their future is bright with hopes and dreams.

But, for me, the countdown has begun. I only have a limited time with them in my home and under my wing. While they are excited about what lies ahead, I can get sad, knowing the years will go by so quickly.

As this summer approached, I prayed about what I could do to make the most of my time with my teenagers. I don’t want to get so busy, filling each day with activities and my to-do list, that I don’t take time to invest in them. Now that they are self-sufficient, it’s easy to let them do their own thing, and at the same time, they are not as excited as they used to be about my ideas! I need to think of new ways to reach into their world and touch their hearts. I brainstormed about meaningful ways to connect and I encourage you to do the same. No matter how long the days may seem, the years are short. Before we know it, our children will be ready to take flight. While I am not eager for that day to come, the God of hope has been teaching me that if I invest in them and our relationship now, while they are young, then their leaving home will not be the end, but a new beginning of a lifelong friendship.

This week we share some studies geared toward parenting older children. Whether you have teenagers or littles, I encourage you to pray for your relationship with your children to grow deeper with each passing year, starting this summer.

Love and Blessings,

  1. I have been enjoying the mom’s of wisdom devotionals posted on the you version Bible app so i came to the website. I appreciate Jennifer’s thoughts on summer with teens. I’m there too & feeling the sadness & pressure to use my time wisely. These are my last 2 children at home. Praying for God’s wisdom with teens & also while we homeschool. It’s easy to get so wrapped up in school & to do but relationships are the most important of all!!!
