New Year, New Creation

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here!” 2 Corinthians 5:17

A New Year means New Year’s resolutions, right? New Year, New Me, does that sound like your motto, too? If you are anything like me, you get swept up in the resolution game, making unrealistic goals that will inevitably be too difficult to accomplish and have us all “giving up” by the end of January. Sound familiar?

The biggest mistake I made last year when planning my year was not truly seeking God’s will and thinking my goals should be like other people’s. Romans 12:2 tells us that we are not to conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of our minds and that this renewing of our minds is the only way to discern God’s perfect will for us.

When reviewing last year and planning for the new year, I am going to sit down with the Lord (and hot chocolate) and follow these steps:

Meditate on what Paul said in 2 Corinthians 5:17 ‘Therefore, if anyone is in Christ; the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here! ‘I am already a new creation in Christ; therefore, the New Year does not need a new me.

Thank God for all the many blessings He has given me, and repent of the things that I didn’t appreciate.

Ask Him what my goals should be for the coming year and seek His guidance on how to achieve them.

Remember John 15:5 ‘ ‘I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me, you can do nothing.’ I can only accomplish these goals by staying close to Jesus.

Consider my goals monthly. Seek God for guidance and stand on the promise that ‘I can do all this through him who gives me strength. ‘Philippians 4:13.

What’s Next?

Do you need to sit with God to plan your goals for 2023 but do not know where to start? Why not start with the four pillars of the Help Club for Moms?

How can I cultivate my spirit?

How can I love my husband?

How can I love my children?

How can I build my home?

Praying your new year will be blessed,

Nikki Evans and the Help Club for Moms Team
