Neither Death Nor Door Can Hold Back Our Savior!

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39

“God reminds us daily – no matter what kind of obstacles we face – that we are loved and empowered by the One who brought the universe into existence with the mere sound of His voice. Nothing is impossible for Him.” – Beth Moore.

Easter marks our ultimate freedom: Jesus overcame the grave! I love to display a banner in my home every year during the Easter season, “He Is Risen!” This year I am battling fearfulness and worry even as I sit under that banner to write this message. I feel overwhelmed by my responsibilities with home, work, and ministry. I worry I am stretched too thin to nurture my teenage and toddler sons.

Mama, it is too easy to let worry steal our joy. I often get so consumed with my circumstances that I miss Jesus in the moment I’m in. The disciples struggled too. Read this verse from the first Easter night, just hours after Jesus’ tomb was found empty.

“When it was evening on that first day of the week, the disciples were gathered together with the doors locked because they feared the Jews. Jesus came, stood among them, and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.'” – John 20:19 (CSB)

The disciples spent three years with Jesus, hearing Him prophesy his death and resurrection. Yet on the very night sin and death were conquered, Jesus’ closest companions locked themselves away in fear. They were so imprisoned by worry they imprisoned themselves physically! Has any other mama out there ever felt imprisoned by her fears?

Did you read what Jesus did next, mama? He came and stood among them. Jesus had just walked out of the grave, so walking through a locked door was nothing for Him. He defied barred doors, closed windows, and the fearful hearts of his disciples who had just betrayed him. Despite their weaknesses, Jesus came to them, blessed them, spoke purpose into their lives and breathed His Spirit on them. (See John 20:21-22 below.)

Dear mama, the peace, purpose, and presence of Jesus is not just for the disciples. It’s for you and your household too! There are hundreds of verses in the Bible that tell us not to worry or be afraid. Jesus came to His flock while they were still afraid to teach them how not to fear. He brought His peace and breath into their being.

Rest assured sweet friend, even when you find yourself imprisoned by fear, doubt, or worry, there is no door or tomb that Jesus cannot defy. Look up if you feel bound or consumed by anything other than Jesus’ love for you! He is with you! He has peace for you today right where you are. Nothing can hold back our God!

Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, I also send you.” After saying this, he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” – John 20:21-22 (CSB)

Let’s Pray!

Jesus, You are Lord, and You are risen! Thank you for meeting me where I am. Help me to look for You and find You when I feel afraid. Help me to remember that nothing can separate me from Your love. Amen.

With Love,
