Prayer Time Anywhere

“Rejoice always, pray continually,  give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Prayer Time Anywhere

Many older women have told me that one of the best places to connect with your children is in the car. I have found this to be delightfully true. My kids always seem to open up a little more in a space where it’s just us. Many mornings this past school year I drove my girls to school and I loved taking a moment to pray for their day. And, since last year was such a hard year, I thought it was a great time to teach my girls how God meets their needs and answers their prayers.

Many of my prayers were about God’s protection over them, and for Jesus to help them remember what they studied for tests. With the different restrictions in place going into the school year last year, there were new challenges. So we began to pray for very specific issues, such as making new friends within the classes they were in.

My oldest daughter said that her lunch class was very quiet. One morning we prayed for laughter and topics to talk about at lunch. God knew what these kids needed, and my daughter told me they all laughed together that day.

My youngest daughter told me she could not find a library book that she had searched everywhere for. We took the time to pray and ask God to show her where the book was. Low and behold she found it in her desk the next day. She was so relieved!

We know God enjoys details. He answers all of our prayers, whether it’s a yes or a no. It’s important to me to point my girls to Jesus to ask Him for what they need, and teach them to trust in the answers He gives them.  When God says “no”, although sometimes not easy, they can trust that God has the best interests in mind for them. He sees the big picture.

After a few months of praying every morning with my girls before school, my oldest daughter was talking to my husband. She explained to him all the prayers that had been answered.  By seeing God answer her prayers, she experienced joy and peace in ways she never expected.

I have been so blessed to watch God work in the lives of my children. I want to encourage you to be intentional and specific in prayer with your children and see how God answers their prayers. He is a good Father!
