Scriptures to Combat Fear

When fear whispers in your ear and its icy fingers try to grip your heart, fight it with Scripture!

As Paul reminds us in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, in order that the person of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.”

And God Himself says about His Word in Isaiah 55:11b, “It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” God’s Word is powerful!

Below are some of my favorite verses about fear, freedom, and who we are in Christ. Find some more of your own, and write them somewhere that you can see them on a daily basis, whether that means a journal, a chalkboard or whiteboard in your house, or even post-it’s placed in strategic places in your house or car. God’s Words are life! Speak them over your life and directly to the fear that comes against you. Speak LIFE!

2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV) — For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

1 John 4:18 — There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

Joshua 1:9 — Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

Romans 8:31 — What then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?

Galatians 5:1 — It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

Romans 8:37 — No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

Psalm 23:4 — Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

John 10:10 (NKJV) — The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

Prayer for Today: Father, thank you for Your words of life to us. Help us to use them in a way in which they become a part of our identity and so we can use them to overcome. Thank you for Your great love for us, Your provision for us, and Your victory for us. We love You. Amen!

Ps- The Help Club made a beautiful printable with all of these Scriptures mentioned. Print it out and hang it where you will see it often- on your bathroom mirror or on your fridge.

  1. Thank you for sharing Linda. Having a husband on dialysis and a baby who just left the NICU, I really couldn’t feel God’s love.. but thanks for your incredible strength.

    1. Jessica, I am so sorry that you are walking through such a difficult time. But know that, even if it’s hard to feel His love, He is right there with you. Be strong and courageous for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. He leaves you or forsakes you (Joshua 1). And truly, He is close to the broken-hearted and saves those crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). I have experienced it firsthand, when I needed Him the most. Cry out to Him when you need Him. He is the best father, and He loves you so much. As you continue to seek Him, even in the midst of your circumstances, you will find Him! Jeremiah 29:13 says, “‘You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,’ declares the Lord.” It’s a promise! As you lean into Him and surrender to Him, he will bring beauty and goodness to your situation. He will change you and make you like precious gold, refined by fire, strong and pure. You are absolutely seen and known by Him. He loves you with an everlasting love and knows intimately your pain and tears. I am praying for you!!! And He is the miracle worker as well, so I am praying for miracles for your husband and baby. Lots of love and a giant hug to you. You are so very loved. ❤️

I am pregnant with our 4th blessing and I have been diagnosed with placenta increta. Thank you so much! I pray every day God uses this time to bring Him glory and I hope to share what He has done for me just as you have – through a challenging time where it’s so easy to allow fear to consume. God bless you & your family!!! I pray your husband is doing well.
