Seeking a Double Portion

“When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?” “Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,” Elisha replied.”-‭‭2 Kings‬ ‭2:9‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Tis the season for eating! No wonder the holidays are the happiest times of the year because of rich, decadent foods, traditions, and memories. Mama, did you know that God loves to eat? Seriously, the Bible is full of food and celebrations! All the feasts of the Lord involve good foods and commandments to rest and enjoy them!

“So eat your meals heartily, not worrying about what others say about you—you’re eating to God’s glory, after all, not to please them. As a matter of fact, do everything that way, heartily and freely to God’s glory. –‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭10:31 MSG‬‬

This Message translation makes me think of my son Shai when he was a baby; I used to call him my “Gusto kid” because he always ate with gusto, slept with gusto, and even played with gusto! It also makes me think of the prophet Elisha too, who boldly asked for a double portion of Elijah’s anointing! Do you know his story? 2 Kings chapters 4-6 is full of miracles performed through Elisha’s complete trust in the Almighty to perform and do what only God can do!

Elisha is a Bible hero that exemplified having GUSTO faith! Through the power of God, he multiplied oil for a widow so she could repay her debts; he blessed the Shunammite’s womb to conceive and then brought her son back to life by laying over his dead body; he was able to reverse poisoned stew, multiplied bread to feed the thousands, prophesied to Naaman to wash in the river seven times to restore his leprosy, recovered a missing ax head, and prayed for a revelation of the supernatural horses and chariots of fire! Even in his death, a dead man was brought back to life when his body hit Elisha’s bones!

Elisha’s life is a testimony of how to be TENACIOUS and to be a conduit of God’s power! Elisha BELIEVED God would work through him! Sister, God wants to work through your faith too!

Ask yourself;

Am I a conduit of love to others?

Am I tenacious in my faith?

Am I hungry for more?

Am I asking for a double portion?

Do you know the Scripture where it says that God wants to give us good gifts and all we need to do is ask?  It’s found in Matthew 7:9-11

“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

Mama, In this season when we all want a second helping of the yummiest delicacies on the table, don’t forget to ask God for a DOUBLE portion of faith, hope, love, energy, vision, motivation, boldness, and revelation so that you too can be a GUSTO mama for Jesus!

🙏 Pray with me,

Dear Father God, Thank You for this season of delicious food and rejoicing in Your faithfulness, goodness, and provision. Thank You for the story of Elisha and his tenacious faith. Please help us to think BIG enough, dream BIG enough, and to live our lives like Elisha did- FULL of gusto faith for Your glory 🙌
