One of my greatest blessings as an individual is that of a relationship with the Holy Spirit. The most beautiful part of this relationship is that it is not merely limited only to the things we usually term ‘spiritual’, it extends to every area of my life.

What a blessing it is to know the Holy Spirit!

As a woman, especially as a mom, I find that I am constantly in need of total reliance on the Holy Spirit and all the things He empowers me to be able to do. I am that mom that takes scriptures about the Holy Spirit literally and tailor them to my life! That is the only way I can keep my sanity amid the chaos that the world brings our way.

As I share with you about what the Holy Spirit has done for me and how He has helped me, I want to tell you a secret; He longs to do the same for you.

So, if you feel burdened by the many hats you wear as a mother, or you feel defeated by your failings, you are not alone. But more importantly, I want to remind you that you have help, in the form of the Holy Spirit.

Let me share with you a few of the ways the Holy Spirit helps me and how He can help you too, as I am learning to walk that journey with Him:

He is My Constant Reminder: I know that with all the many things I need to do as a mom, I need to constantly rely on my digital reminders, like my phone alarm, to keep me on top of my tasks and to-do list. In the same way, I have also come to rely on the Holy Spirit to bring to my remembrance those things that matter in my life.

It is so easy to focus on some areas of our lives, especially when we are busy, that we forget or neglect some other areas. Think of some of those times when you are giving so much attention to your children that you forget to spend time with your husband, or when work is hectic that you find that you neglect developing intimacy with God in prayer. Those are the times when I need the Holy Spirit to be my reminder because a digital one wouldn’t do the trick at all. The Holy Spirit gives me a nudge and I know to make the necessary adjustments.

“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” John 14:26 (NIV)

He teaches me the truth: So many options, all very good, all very Godly; which do I pick? Often, I find myself relying on the Spirit of God to help me during those times. He gives me the ability to know, through His leading, His best for me in the different seasons of my life.

Have you ever found yourself in those times, when you don’t know which way to go, and after asking others for their counsel, you feel like you are still going around in circles?

It could be the choice of a school for your child, a choice between homeschooling or letting your child go to school outside of the home. The choice may be, “should I spend my limited resource on this option or should I save that money now?”

The decisions we need to make are endless, and we do not need to carry that burden alone. The Holy Spirit wants to help us. The times when we are at such crossroads are the times when we need to remind ourselves that the Holy Spirit has promised to lead us into all truth.

What situation are you faced with today? What decision looms ahead of you?

Remember that the Holy Spirit is with you, and you can trust Him to lead you into the truth, and show you the things that are to come.

“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come”.  John 16:13

He supplies the wisdom I need to navigate life: Who needs heavy doses of wisdom every single day more than a mother? I am sure you can relate too! How many times does your child make you speechless by some of the questions they ask you? How often do you find yourself scrambling for answers?

With our world the way it is now, it becomes much more important for us to rely on the wisdom that the Holy Spirit supplies to us. With so many slippery roads and dark corners we need to travel on as God’s children, there is no better time to embrace His wisdom, than now.

As a mother, I do not kid myself into thinking I can do it alone – though I try to sometimes, and I am quick to repent after falling flat on my face several times. I have so many constant reminders in my life to show me that I had better stay with God’s wisdom.

If you also need the wisdom of God, it is readily available to you when you cultivate a relationship with the Holy Spirit.

“The Spirit of the LORD will rest on Him – the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and strength, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD”. Isaiah 11:2 NIV

Maybe you find yourself in situations where you know that you need the Holy Spirit, but you have never experienced a connection with Him. And you find that what I am saying sounds a little alien to you, or maybe you have never felt that kind of deep connection with God, let me remind you that God longs to have intimacy with you. And it is why the Bible says it this way,

“Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded”. James 4:8 NIV

God longs for you and the Holy Spirit wants to make a connection with you. Why? So that He can help you too. All you need to do is ask Him.

Let’s pray: Dear Holy Spirit, I acknowledge that I have been living life on my terms and in my strength. I know that I need you to navigate my life as your daughter, as a wife, and as a mother. Help me to keep my relationship with You intimate, so that I can hear you speaking to me and leading me. Thank You, Lord, because, from today, I follow Your leading as You direct me in Jesus’ name. (Amen)
