The Word Became Human

Easter Day 1

“In the beginning, the Word already existed; the Word was with God, and the Word was God. From the very beginning the Word was with God. Through him God made all things; not one thing in all creation was made without him. The Word was the source of life, and this life brought light to people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has never put it out.

God sent his messenger, a man named John,  who came to tell people about the light, so that all should hear the message and believe.  He himself was not the light; he came to tell about the light.  This was the real light—the light that comes into the world and shines on all people.

The Word was in the world, and though God made the world through him, yet the world did not recognize him.  He came to his own country, but his own people did not receive him.  Some, however, did receive him and believed in him; so he gave them the right to become God’s children.  They did not become God’s children by natural means, that is, by being born as the children of a human father; God himself was their Father.

The Word became a human being and, full of grace and truth, lived among us. We saw his glory, the glory which he received as the Father’s only Son” John 1:1-14 (GNT).

  • Welcome to Easter with the Help Club! Get ready for six weeks of insightful and practical Bible Studies and Mom Tips designed to help your Easter be more meaningful and fun for you and your whole family! Today’s Bible study features my absolute favorite passage of Scripture! As we are preparing our hearts for Easter, the first chapter of John is a great way to learn more about Jesus. It’s filled with great verses about who Jesus is and what He came to the earth to accomplish.
  • Take a moment to read John 1:1-14 in the Good News Translation (above). Before you start to read the Scriptures, be sure to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand what you are reading and to teach you what He wants you to know about Jesus. Be sure to ask God to show you how much He loves you!

The Word Became Human

Here are some important things about Jesus that we can learn from these verses:

1. ” In the beginning, the Word already existed; the Word was with God, and the Word was God. From the very beginning, the Word was with God.”

We see here that the Scriptures refer to Jesus as the Word. Matthew Henry, an amazing Bible commentator explains:

“The plainest reason why the Son of God is called the Word, seems to be, that as our words explain our minds to others, so was the Son of God sent in order to reveal his Father’s mind to the world.”

Imagine this for a second: Jesus came to teach us about the Creator of this earth and give us an understanding and view of Him in ways we can better comprehend! It would be challenging for our minds to fathom the complexity and greatness of God, so He sent us Jesus to explain and show us all about the Father’s love. When we want to know more about who God is, we simply need to look closely at Jesus, His words, and His life. When we see Jesus, we are actually are seeing the Father too, but in human form.

In these verses, we can see the awesome truth that when we talk about the Word, we are talking about a Person- Jesus Christ! If you look closely, you can see the writer capitalizes “Word.” That means it’s a proper noun; it’s the person of Jesus!

Further, these verses show us that Jesus has always existed with God, is God and has been God before the earth was ever created.

2. “Through Him, God made all things; not one thing in all creation was made without Him. The Word was the source of life, and this life brought light to people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has never put it out.”

This verse clearly states that God made everything! Our world was designed by God, and we did not randomly evolve! What’s more, we have the delight of knowing this same God in a personal way through the Person of Jesus Christ!

Jesus is also referred to many times in the Bible as “the light.” What we know about light is that it illuminates the darkness. This world can be a dark place, but Jesus lights up the darkness with His presence and His love. He offers us hope and healing from the difficulties and pain we face on Earth. He will shine His light into the dark corners of our hearts and lives, giving us new life if we will turn away from our sin (darkness) and give our lives to Jesus.

3.The Word was in the world, and though God made the world through him, yet the world did not recognize him.  He came to his own country, but his own people did not receive him.  Some, however, did receive him and believed in him; so he gave them the right to become God’s children.  They did not become God’s children by natural means, that is, by being born as the children of a human father; God himself was their Father.”

Not everyone will choose to believe in Jesus; He does give us a choice. Jesus will not force us to follow Him or turn away from our sin. But if we do choose to surrender our lives to Jesus, the love and transformation that follow are life-changing, and you will never be the same!

Questions to Ponder

  • What is God teaching me today about Jesus and His love for me?
  • Do I need to invite Jesus into my life so that I may live a new life with Him? If so, pray this simple prayer:

“Dear Lord Jesus,
I know I am a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness.
I believe you died for my sins and rose from the dead.
I trust and follow you as my Lord and Savior.
Guide my life and help me to do your will.
In your name, amen.”

Note- If you prayed this prayer, we at Help Club For Moms would love to celebrate and pray for you! Please email us at helpclubformoms@gmail.com.

Faith-Filled Idea

Praying with a prayer partner is one of the most powerful habits you could start! Every week in the Help Club, we all pray with someone. I have a prayer partner too, and we pray every week! My life is better, and I feel so much more at peace after we pray. If you don’t have a prayer partner, pray and ask God for one! He is faithful and will give you one!
