You Don’t Live There Anymore!

“For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.” Romans 8:2

Have you ever moved within the same town – from one area of town/address to another? If you have, you have likely found yourself subconsciously driving home to the wrong house at one time or another. It’s a real thing! I’ve done it!

Read Romans 8:1-11, and if you have time, read all of Romans 8. In verses 6-8, Paul tells us that to be carnally minded (your mind set on things of the flesh) is death, and that those who are in the flesh cannot please God. This is not the place that you want to be!

But God provided a way out! Because of Jesus’ sacrifice, you have been set free from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2), and this is now your new address: “But you are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit!” (Romans 8:9). “Those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” (Romans 8:5-6).

Dear friend, would someone describe you as being filled with life and peace? If not, have you been subconsciously driving back to the wrong address? Maybe this doesn’t describe your entire life, but it may describe a certain portion of it. Take a good, hard look at your life. If there’s an area where you are not consistently experiencing life and peace, pay attention to your driving. There’s a good chance that you are on autopilot, letting your mind, will, and emotions steer you in the familiar (carnal) ways (of the flesh).

My friend, don’t go that way! It leads to death. Your new address is a place of no condemnation (Romans 8:1), freedom (Romans 8:2), righteousness (Romans 8:4), life and peace (Romans 8:6), victory (Romans 8:37), and the inseparable love of God (Romans 8:39). Today, ask the Holy Spirit to help you to remember your new address in all areas of your life, and with His help, you will be transformed by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2). He will help you to make intentional decisions to live in the Spirit. Your new address is so much better than your last one!
