A Wise Woman Loves Her Husband

“Older women, likewise, are to be reverent in their behavior, not slanderers or addicted to much wine, but teachers of good. In this way they can train the young women to love their husbands and children”. Titus 2:3-4 NLT

Sister, can I tell you something…the first time I discovered that love was something I had to learn, I was amazed. I always thought, love should come naturally. So, you can imagine when I read about the role of older women in Titus 2:3-4 saying that younger women needed to be trained to love their husbands and their children, I was surprised.

And that’s when I started thinking that there must be a way to “love” that I needed and wanted to learn about.

Relating that scripture to the one in Proverbs 27:3-4 that speaks to us as wise women and how we should build, I came to the quick conclusion that it is a wise decision to love my husband by building our home. By showing love to my husband, I am building my home and filling it with treasures of wisdom and spiritual wealth.

Wise people are builders – they build families, businesses, communities. And through intelligence and insight their enterprises are established and endure. Because of their skilled leadership the hearts of people are filled with the treasures of wisdom and the pleasures of spiritual wealth. – Proverbs 24:3-4 TPT

One of my most precious lessons when it comes to loving my husband, that I have learned, is that love is a choice and a commitment.  Loving your husband as a choice means that you commit to doing him good each day of your life, whether you think he deserves it or not. It means you would choose to honour, respect, obey and submit to his leadership, whether or not you believe you should.

Can you relate with not liking your husband sometimes? You know those moments when you just don’t want to be in the same room with him. If you can relate, you are in good company. I haven’t met one woman yet who doesn’t feel like that sometimes.

I am thankful that the Bible never said we need to like our husbands all the time, but we DO need to love them all the time. This means that whether or not you feel offended or hurt by your husband, you are always going to choose right – to love regardless.

God’s standards dictate that I pray for, care for and give preference to my husband every single time! So, today, as you meditate on God’s Word, ask that the Holy Spirit would give you the grace to be a wise woman who builds her home by showing love to your husband.

Let’s take a moment and pray together,

Lord Jesus, I thank You for being the perfect example of love and what loving should look like. Today, I commit my heart into your hands, and I ask that You would help me to love my husband, to be his true companion, to honour, respect and submit to his leadership. May I be wise in all my dealings with him by continually doing things that would build my home in Jesus name. Amen.

I hope that together we can continue to be wise in loving our husbands as the Lord wants us to.

    1. Hello Lisa, Thank you for visiting and for reading this post today.

When it comes to submission, we believe that it is choosing to respect and honor our husbands, give them their place of authority in our homes and marriages. We believe the scriptures when it asks as to submit to our own husbands, which in essence means that the choice is ours, and we never need tp feel trodden upon or subservient, or be a doormat to do this.

In fact, it takes a lot of courage, strength and wisdom to understand that we are powerful as God’s daughters, but we refuse to misuse that power, rather we choose to give our husbands their position of headship in the marriage.

To be submissive does not mean that we do not have an opinion on issues in our homes, it is all about the attitude of our hearts to respect and give the place of honor to our own husbands.

God’s ultimate desire is that in a marriage, the couple will submit to one another out of reverence for Christ, as God’s word says in Ephesians 5:21.

God wants us to continue to make the choice to not strive against or resist our husbands, but to support and encourage them, for the good of our marriages and homes.

I hope that I have been able to shed more light on this subject and I pray that the Holy Spirit will reveal even more to you on this subject. Amen
