Obedience to Christ Alone

“You shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God has commanded you, that you may live and that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you shall possess.” Deuteronomy 5:33 NKJV Obedience to Christ Alone Today, I write to you not only as a mother but also as a child.  Now that I am a mom, I have a glimpse of what life was like for my parents.  I know that my parents always wanted and believed the best for me and helped me achieve that.  Likewise, I see my son and desire for him to have...

Expect Great Things!

“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Romans 4:17 “God… calls into being things that were not.” Romans 4:17 Expect Great Things   Lately, I’ve been doing the “Love your Spouse Challenge” on Facebook and have enjoyed it even more than I ever thought I would! While sharing my posts, I’ve been writing all the things that I loved about my husband at each stage of our relationship. Pondering how we met, and all of...

Pursuing Our Children Like God Pursues Us

Pursuing Our Children Like God Pursues Us

“We love because He first loved us.” – The Apostle John Pursuing Our Children Like God Pursues Us   Recently, I was on a walk with my children when God laid on my heart that I need to pursue my children as He pursues me. We all have an innate need to be pursued by those who love us; our children are no exception to this need. The beginning of the Bible through the end leads us through the ultimate story of His unfailing love, and we see that God our Father is THE pursuer of our souls. God has designed us as parents to...

Great Expectations

Great Expectations

“Many are the plans in the mind of man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.” Proverbs 19:21 Great Expectations   How has your summer been? Is it going the way you thought it would? At the start of every summer, I always had great plans for what we would accomplish. We would start our days with glorious hikes in the mountains. We would plant and make all of our meals from the abundant garden in the back yard. Lazy afternoons would be spent journaling and dreaming. And nights would almost always finish with...

Bloom Where You’re Planted

“They seldom reflect on the days of their life, because God keeps them occupied with gladness of heart.” Ecclesiastes 5:20. “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven” Ecclesiastes 3:1. “In this life, you WILL have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Jesus Christ   When I read these words of our Lord Jesus, part of me feels comforted  and part of me feels concerned. The truth is, we DO experience trouble and heartache on this earth. So how can we live a life of...

No Do-Overs

No Do-Overs

“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Psalm 90:12 No Do-Overs In our family, when one of our children acts unkindly, we ask if they’d like a “do-over.”  It’s a moment of parental grace where the child rethinks the mistake and has a second chance to respond with respect and love. Everyone’s heart is healed. Everyone feels loved. As parents, we love this moment chock-full of discipleship and grace! Wouldn’t it be wonderful if real life had do-overs?  Imagine you’re too busy to make good...

Keeper of the Chocolate

Keeper of the Chocolate

“Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love that we will sing for joy and be glad all of our days.”-Psalm 90:14 Keeper of the Chocolate While contemplating the wide-eyed wonder and belly laughs of childhood, I realized I hold a very important position as a mother: the keeper of the chocolate, the planner of parties, and basically the facilitator of joy. It seems unfair that I hold this power in my family. I know that if any of my children had this right, they would exercise it freely – sweets and roller coasters for everyone! When the...

The Art of Christian Hospitality

The Art of Christian Hospitality

“Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters.  Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.” Hebrews 12:1-2 The Art of Christian Hospitality   “The heart of hospitality is about creating space for someone to feel seen and heard and loved. It’s about declaring your table a safe zone, a place of warmth and nourishment.”  – Shauna Nicquest   I admit; I often cringe and feel intimidated when I hear the word...
