15/5 Challenge Day 27

“The angel said to the women, ‘Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.’” MATTHEW 28:5-6

“Fear not, for his resurrection shall be your consolation.” Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary

The quote by Matthew Henry above is so powerful and true! The angel in today’s verses was comforting the women and telling them not to fear. To “console” means to alleviate or lessen the grief, sorrow, or disappointment. Jesus’ resurrection meant there was hope! This was unlike any other death these women had experienced—there was no sting! Jesus was not gone forever. He hadn’t abandoned them; it was the exact opposite! He had pardoned them and paved a way for them eternally! I cannot imagine what these two women felt, but as we look back in time at this moment, it is so powerful and filled to the brim with hope!
