The Challenge of Mental Discipline

“I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13 (BSB)

We think. We feel. We act. We become. Because our thoughts accumulate and affect who we are in every area of our lives, we have to stay centered on productive thoughts!

In the same way, an athlete develops strong muscles, we can train our mental “muscles” to be toned and effective, so that we can accomplish the plan God has for our lives. Mental laziness slowly dissolves our God-given potential.

How can you keep your thought life in top shape in order to bless your family? First, ask God to show you His divine calling on your life.

2 Peter 1:10 says, “Be all the more diligent to confirm your calling, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall.”

Then, as God speaks to you, write down the goals He sets for you as the mama of your family. Finally, walk confidently in the direction He gives you, believing that He will do immeasurably more than you can imagine. Diligently focusing your thoughts on God’s plan for you and your family will bless them immensely!

Jeremiah 33:3 says, “Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.”

Every mama needs a game plan. Hitting small goals, one at a time, means hitting the large goals in the end. You have eighteen years to raise your child, but it happens one day at a time. Prayerfully take the time to set strong, specific goals for your family, both for the long-term and the short-term. For example, our family has a vision statement that declares who we are in Christ and our values, based on the Bible. We also have yearly goals regarding growth in Christ, relationships, health, and finances, which line up with our family vision statement. And finally, each day, we distribute our goals into daily tasks. Yes, it takes discipline to walk through this exercise. But it is priceless to lay down in bed at night, knowing that you have earnestly put into practice God’s divine direction for your family.

Diligently focusing your thoughts on God’s plan for you and your family will bless them immensely!

  1. Thanks Kristen! I have to remind myself of this daily, sometimes moment-by-moment. It is so good when I’m focused on His plan and not just my own.
