“Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither- whatever they do prospers.” Psalm 1:1-3
Cultivate Joy with the Word of God
As we begin to ponder what it means to grow and flourish as a Christ-follower, and learn how to live a joy-filled life, I cant think of a more beautiful picture than the one in Psalm 1:1-3.
Did you see what the Scripture said will happen to us when we meditate on the Word of God, day and night? It says that we will be like a tree planted be streams of water, which yields fruit and doesn’t wither, and that we will also prosper in whatever we do. I don’t know about you, but I deeply desire to prosper in all areas of my life, especially in the areas of my marriage and family relationships. We need to understand the love and words of Jesus. He has lots to say about how He wants us to live our lives, but we must plan and make space for the time it takes to spend each day pondering, praying, and listening.
May I invite you to commit yourself to the faithful study of the Word of God through this book? By committing yourself to do each of the Bible studies, you will rapidly find yourself growing into the Christian woman, wife, and mother you were created to be. Since there are only four short studies per week, this leaves other days where you can go back through the studies and read the whole chapter where the key verse is found. Remember to record what the Holy Spirit said to you in the journal pages provided. As always, before you begin each study, pray and ask Jesus to speak to you and help you to grow in Him and His love like never before.
Dearest sister, drink deep the words of our Lord, and the love and grace He offers you on a daily basis. When we draw our life from time spent with Jesus and fill ourselves up with His words of love, we find ourselves better equipped to do all that He has called to do.
Remember, the words of Jesus when He said, “But whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed the water I give him will become in him a fount of water springing up to eternal life,” (John4:14). When we feed on Jesus, we will never be hungry or thirsty again. Let Jesus fill you as you do this study. His Living Water will help you to flourish and prosper like never before!

I remember going into my daughter's room night after night and kneeling beside her bed and crying my heart out to God because I didn’t know how to be a Christian mom; I felt like I had no idea what I was doing. You know what? God is so faithful! He answered me and simply said, “Spend time with me, Deb.” And so I did. I began arising 15-30 minutes earlier each day so I could read my Bible and pray, and plan out my day with my family.
If there was one thing I would love to share with you is that God is personal and loves you as you are. You don’t have to be perfect to be loved by our amazing God! Come as you are! His loving presence can be practically known and experienced. He is not a God who is far away, He is near and easily found. He longs for you to come to Him!
Randy and I have been married for 33 years and we have two grown children, Christie, and Jack, and one answer to prayer son-in-law named Alex. And now I get to be a Gigi to my sweet little grandbabies, Aspen and Skylar, and Piper. Yay!
