Cultivating a Family That Serves

“Faith and works are bound up in the same bundle.  He that obeys God trusts God, and he that trusts God obeys God.  He that is without works is without faith.” Charles Spurgeon

“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45

Our family has been blessed to live in a lot of different places.  One thing God has placed on me and my husband’s hearts is to be a serving family.  Not for works, but because we love God.  When we lived in Virginia, I was blessed to head up Vacation Bible School and we decorated the whole church. My boys were 8, 4, and 3 at the time, but we allowed them to paint treasure boxes for the lobby.  They loved this, and this began to cultivate their hearts for serving.

In Georgia, my boys and I were blessed to be able to serve at a “Casting Crowns” concert for Compassion International.  The family picture in this article is from a night our church recognized all the people who served in youth ministry.  This year my boys were sad to miss church because they couldn’t serve.  I am so thankful that God placed on my husband’s and my hearts the vision to create a family that loves to serve and help others.  I encourage each of you to pray and ask God how you can encourage your family to serve Him.
