Enjoying the Waiting

Slow down, take time

Breath in He said

He’d reveal what’s to come

The thoughts in His mind

Always higher than mine

He’ll reveal all to come

Take courage my heart

Stay steadfast my soul

He’s in the waiting

He’s in the waiting

Hold onto your hope

As your triumph unfolds

He’s never failing

He’s never failing

Sing praise my soul

Find strength in joy

Let His Words lead you on

Do not forget

His great faithfulness

He’ll finish all He’s begun

So take courage my heart

Stay steadfast my soul

He’s in the waiting

Hold onto your hope

As your triumph unfolds

He’s never failing

He’s never failing

And You who hold the stars

Who call them each by name

Will surely keep, Your promise to me

That I will rise, in Your victory

And You who hold the stars

Who call them each by name

Will surely keep, Your promise to me

That I will rise, in Your victory!

So take courage my heart

Stay steadfast my soul

He’s in the waiting

He’s in the waiting

And hold onto your hope

Watch your triumph unfold

He’s never failing

He’s never failing!

He’s in the waiting…

Much of motherhood involves waiting, doesn’t it? We wait 9 months to meet our baby and for some of us,  we wait a long time to even get pregnant! Then, we wait for our baby to learn how to walk, talk, potty train, and the list goes on. Ultimately, we wait to see what kind of person our little creation will turn out to be…and at the heart of it—will they follow Jesus their whole life? These questions need to be entrusted to God who knows all the answers. In the meantime, while we wait for the story of our child’s life to unfold, we need to ask Him to guide us through this continual, ever-changing cycle of waiting—the everyday in’s and out’s of raising our child—trusting Him to train them up in the way they should go (Proverbs 22:6).

As Kristene DiMarco’s song “Take Courage” blared as I was driving in my car alone (who else worships like crazy when by yourself in the car?!), her lyrics just flowed through me; they resonated in a deep way. I was overcome with the thought that the triumph I am waiting to see unfold is to witness my children grow up to have a personal relationship with Jesus, to have an unending love of learning, and have a strong relationship with our family.

The truth I felt God laying on my heart was that I will miss the very essence of what He’s doing if I don’t enjoy this “waiting” time with my kids, that there is actually joy in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and that there will be no triumph unfolding if I try to push my way through life and make things happen on my own strength. He is calling me to live out the unknowns each day by pouring into my children with faith in each and every lesson, story read, hug given, and prayer said. I believe these tiny choices and actions will sow seeds into their little lives, and ensure His triumph will unfold and His promises will be realized—He’ll finish all He’s begun!

We mamas need to take courage and stay steadfast—that is the game plan! It’s staying present and being vulnerable to the Holy Spirit, which will naturally lead us to a Spirit-led balance in our lives. So, when things don’t go our way we should rejoice in these moments!

Sing praise my soul

Find strength in joy

Let His Words lead you on

Do not forget His great faithfulness

He’ll finish all He’s begun.

So take courage my heart

Stay steadfast my soul

Our faithfulness to trust in God’s plan even when things don’t look like they should or don’t go according to plan.

The thoughts in His mind

Always higher than mine

He’ll reveal all to come…

Hold onto your hope

We miss so many joy-filled, enjoyable, moments when we harken unswervingly to the old adage: “work first, then play.” While there is much wisdom here, we will never get all the tasks done. Let’s hold our plans with a loose hand and give room for God to work and let His triumph unfold—He’s never failing!
