Jesus, Teach Me Day 5: Parenting with Grace

“And if anyone longs to be wise, ask God for wisdom and he will give it! He won’t see your lack of wisdom as an opportunity to scold you over your failures but he will overwhelm your failures with his generous grace. Just make sure you ask empowered by confident faith without doubting that you will receive.” James 1:5-6a (TPT)

Parenting with Grace

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if a “help manual” accompanied the delivery of each individual child? I’m smiling, because as a mom of seven very unique personalities, I wish for this very thing. What to do, what to do? There are so many difficult questions to ask and emotions to sift through as we raise, discipline, and disciple our kids. “Holy Spirit, HELP!” is still my heart cry today, even though my children are older now.

Our lack of knowledge in parenting brings a deep dependency on God. This great reliance is strategic and purposeful to help us grow more in His image and likeness. God sifts, refines, and grows us (through our children) more than we could ever imagine. Each time we don’t have the answer, we ask the Creator of our hearts, and He teaches us yet one more time. From His wisdom, we glean and learn. Though we find it humbling, His grace abundantly covers our ignorance.

Precious mom, learn to trust God when you don’t know what to do. It’s better to wait before doing anything unkind. When we find inner peace with Jesus again after a harried situation, it’s much easier to remember and recognize that God is not far away. He is with you and faithful to download the breakthrough help you need!

Pray with me…

Dear Jesus, today I will look for the advice I need from your Word. I will pray, wait, and listen to hear Your voice. Your instruction may not always come immediately or agree with my natural mind because Your thoughts are higher than mine. However, the more I listen, surrender, and parent Your way, the more peaceful and gracious I will become in my mothering. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
