Jesus, Teach Me Day 6: A Peaceful Home

“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV

A Peaceful Home

I believe most moms in the world would pay money for a peace-filled home- if only it could be bought. Strife creates internal anxiety like nobody’s business! It’s ironic, though, that peace cannot be obtained by outward means or by force. In fact, it seems the harder we try to control things, the less harmonious the atmosphere becomes.

This is what I am learning: peace begins not with my children, but with me. When I am anxious or frazzled, my children become this way too. In the same way, if I am inwardly serene, it rubs off on them. I have the ability to set the tone in my home.

How exactly? The Prince of Peace dwells in our innermost being if we are God’s child. Becoming aware of this truth helps. When we feel anxious, we can reach deep within and lay hold of His peace to transfer it to our children.

Don’t stress if this is a new concept to you- just believe it is true. Christ dwells in you – you can access His supernatural peace because of it. This peace belongs to us as part of our inheritance (fruit of the Spirit) in Christ, as promised in John 14:27a, “Peace I leave you; my peace I give you.”

Do not give in to the feelings of being overwhelmed. This takes practice, but as you ask the Holy Spirit, He will faithfully teach you how to abide in supernatural peace no matter what is happening around you.

Colossians 3:15a says, “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.”

We are to let His peace conquer our hearts, no matter the circumstances. It helps to remember, “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV

Christ is always near, He never leaves us. Keep remembering and keep retreating to this place of inner peace where your Savior dwells.

When strife arises, continually give yourself and your children lots of grace! Keep leaning into Jesus with a thankful heart and mind. He has not left you, regardless of how far away He may seem. Our unstable emotions cannot drive Him away.

Perfectionism is a destroyer of peace. Christ’s abundant life is less about idealism and more about His grace. When we believe this and choose to enjoy our children regardless of their rambunctious actions, our homes will eventually automatically reflect more peace. Believe the best!

Pray with Me…

Jesus, please help me. I desire to experience true peace in my home with my family. In times of conflict, teach me how to retreat into Your fortress within me. Help me to return to You again and again until peace results. Thank You for never leaving me. Amen.
