“I am writing to God’s church in Corinth, to you who have been called by God to be his own holy people. He made you holy by means of Christ Jesus, just as he did for all people everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours…” 1 Corinthians 1:2 (NLT)

Hello Friends,

While reading in 1 Corinthians recently, I was pleasantly surprised at Paul’s introductory greeting, “I’ve been called by God to be his own holy people.” It spoke to my heart:

I am writing to God’s church in Corinth, to you who have been called by God to be his own holy people. He made you holy by means of Christ Jesus, just as he did for all people everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours. (1 Corinthians 1:2 NLT)

You, my sister in Christ, are holy! You may have heard this before. The go-to definition I often hear is that holy means set apart. But what is the true definition of holy?

First and foremost, God is holy. No one is like Him, and no one can compare to Him. It is His identity. Jesus’ death and resurrection makes you holy, set apart from those who have not asked Jesus to save them. Your holiness does not mean you are better than others. It simply means your identity is now in Christ.

I pray that as you read the this week’s Bible studies on Identity in Christ, you will truly believe that you are now defined by what the Lord says. I pray that you experience the freedom that comes when you stop believing that what you say and do defines you. I pray that your past sins or wrongs done to you will no longer define you. God doesn’t see you through the lens of your past.

He sees you as holy, set apart by the blood of Jesus.

Love,
