Mom To Mom with Jennifer: Summer of Staying Week Seven

“Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.” (Psalm 1:1-3)

My Dear Sister,

Recently, the Lord reminded me of a prayer I prayed when I was young. Long before I was married or had children, I read Psalm 1 and prayed that I would be “like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season, and whose leaf does not wither.” At the time, I was just a young sapling, one of those trees just a few inches in diameter that was blown and tossed by the wind. I was imagining myself growing old there on the bank of the river, becoming a grandmother who had stood the test of time, who was so strong and wise, stable and steady.

This summer, it is our prayer that we become wise women who stay. How do we become women who are steady and stable, who stay engaged in relationships with their husbands and children? The answer is found in Psalm 1:2. We are to delight in the law of the Lord and meditate on it day and night.

A tree planted by streams of water drinks deeply and never thirsts. Jesus says in John 4:14, “Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” Wherever you go, whatever you face, make spending time in God’s Word your priority. It is never too late to plant yourself by the Stream of Living Water.

Blessings and love,

“It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.” Jesus (Revelation 21:6-7)
