“The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him—the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord—and he will delight in the fear of the Lord.” Isaiah 11:2-3
I’m sure you’ve had these thoughts before, and there certainly is some truth in them: Parenting is exhausting! Loving your kids well is difficult! This world is so complicated! Life is hard!
But I’m going to let you in on a little secret…You have a major advantage! The Spirit of Jesus lives within you (Romans 8—read all of it). And that same Spirit leads you into all truth and tells you of things to come (John 16:13). You see, although there is some truth to those first few statements above, they don’t fully apply to you! You live in this world, but you are not of this world (John 17:14-16). You are a citizen of a heavenly kingdom (Philippians 3:20). And as such, your life with the Spirit is life and peace (Romans 8:6).
This same Spirit, the Holy Spirit, is the Spirit of Jesus! You can trust that He always leads you in triumph and uses you to spread the knowledge of Christ everywhere, like a sweet perfume (2 Corinthians 2:14). How beautiful is that?!?! And what exactly is this Holy Spirit? Isaiah 11:2-3 tells us in a Messianic passage (a prophetic declaration about the future Messiah) that the Holy Spirit is comprised of the Spirit of wisdom, understanding, counsel, power, knowledge and the fear of the Lord. That’s the Spirit of Jesus! And He now lives in you!
So today, mama, I urge you to turn to God every time that you feel overwhelmed or encounter a difficult situation. In fact, turn to Him even before any of these things happen. Daily commit your ways to Him, and He will guide your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6). God is 100% faithful. He gives you His very great and precious promises so that you can hold on to them, declare them, and live them out by faith. You live by faith, resting in the confidence that He is faithful and true, stepping out on what He has said to you, and He brings about the promise.
Declare His promises over your life daily. Declare that the Spirit of the Lord is inside of you: the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord—and that you delight in the fear of the Lord. Declare that the Spirit of Jesus that lives within you leads you into all truth and tells you of things to come. Declare that God always leads you in triumph, and declare that in this world, you are like Him (1 John 4:17). He has given you everything that you need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3), and you can do everything through Him who gives you strength (Philippians 4:13). Now live like it! You are a mama led by the
Holy Spirit, loved by God, and heir to His promises. And you are fully empowered and equipped to love your children well from this place of rest, wisdom, power, and promise!
Love in Him,
