Taking Every Thought Captive

“We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,”~‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭10:5‬ ‭ESV‬‬

As Christian mamas, we sometimes hear that we are to “take every thought captive”.

When I was first a mama to littles, I will admit, I struggled with this. And of course…still do, at times. But thanks to Jesus, it has gotten better. In the midst of pure exhaustion, temper tantrums, and even hard marriage seasons, I’ve often found myself in a whirlwind of negative thoughts that did NOT encompass the “abundant life” Jesus promised, but instead, stole my joy.

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” ~John‬ ‭10:10‬ ‭ESV‬‬

But, Sweet mama, Jesus did promise joy in the midst of hard times;

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”” ~John‬ ‭16:33‬ ‭ESV‬‬

God in His infinite knowledge knows what is ahead for me (and you)!

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” ~‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭29:11‬ ‭ESV‬‬

I have found that as my mama journey has gone on, hard times don’t go away, but with these words hidden in my heart, the Holy Spirit will remind me of them, when I need them most. And when this happens, I catch myself, and I am able to shift my thoughts from the problem, to the promise.

Holding onto the the promises of God when times are hard, is what I believe -means to “take our thoughts captive and make them obedient to Christ”.  Sister, we cannot let our flesh win or allow the thief to steal our joy!  The verse immediately preceding this verse above says this:

“For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.” ~‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭10:4‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Which means that His word, partnered with prayer, has DIVINE POWER to break strongholds, and allow us to live the abundant life he has called us to live. 🙌

Pray with me-

Jesus, in the midst of this amazing, and hard season of being a mama, I pray that You would whisper Your words on the hearts of each mama here, when she needs it most. Remind each mama of Your goodness and Your promises. Help her to take her thoughts captive, to make them obedient to You, so that she may know Your peace that passes all human understanding, no matter what is swirling around in her world.

Amen
