Walking in The Dust of Jesus

“Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.” ‭‭John‬ ‭12:26‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Have you ever seen your little girl try on your dress-up clothes? Or watched your little boy try on his daddy’s shoes and try hard not to trip in them?  I have captured these moments of my kids trying on all sorts of items from my wardrobe and their dad’s in photos and videos on my phone.  There’s something in all of us that seeks to imitate and want to become like someone we look up to.

In Bible times, the term ‘disciple’ was used to refer to someone who followed another, as an apprentice to a master for the purpose of imitating and learning from them in order to become like them.  This is how God wants us to live our lives as true followers of Jesus – to follow hard after Jesus, walking in the dust of the Master, until we become more like Him.

To follow and become like Jesus means that we lose more and more of our fleshly tendencies and take on more and more of who Jesus is, until we actually start to look like Him.  I love how John put it in John 3:30 (NLT), “He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.”  That, right there sister, is the goal of our discipleship – to become like Jesus.

No wonder the Bible tells us, “Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.” 1 John‬ ‭3:2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

In fact, at a time when Lent is being observed by many followers of Jesus across the world, it is important that we remember that our goal is to become more and more like Jesus with each passing day.

My dear sister, if you’ve never really experienced what it means to be a follower or disciple of Jesus, here is your opportunity to surrender your will and your ways to Him. By simply asking Jesus into your heart, you will become a new person, free from your past and former life. Your choice to live each day with a commitment to follow Him, will mold you into a ‘disciple’ as you become more like Him. Following Jesus is the BEST decision we get to make!

Pray with me-

Thank You, Lord, for the privilege to be a follower of Jesus, walking in His steps. I ask for strength more than ever before, to live my life for Jesus each day, walking in the dust of the Master. And May I become more like Him each day in Jesus name. Amen

Love,
