Encountering Jesus: Part 3 How to See Jesus

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” Matthew 5:8

So how do you see Jesus? First of all, you must believe that you will see Him! Then commit your imagination to Him. The one thing that I have found to be the biggest hurdle to hearing God or seeing Him is your own mind. You might second-guess yourself and reason yourself out of seeing Jesus. But God created your imagination. It’s a part of you. Just as you commit every other part of yourself and your life to Him, you can commit your imagination to Him.

Let’s pray: Lord, I thank You for my imagination. I want to commit it now to You, just as I commit every part of my body, soul, and spirit to You. Please take control of my imagination, and help me to see and believe as I step out in faith to see You.

As with all things in the kingdom of God, seeing Jesus is based on faith. So when you ask to see Him, you will most likely see Him in your spirit, not with your actual eyes. This may feel like you are just imagining things. But if your imagination is committed to Christ and you have asked your heavenly Father to see Him and now you are seeing Him, trust that He has answered your prayer. Have faith! In Matthew 7:7-11, Jesus says:

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him!

So you must believe, which is always the first step in the kingdom of God! Next, commit your time to Him in prayer and invite Him to show Himself to you.

Let’s pray: Lord, I thank You that You are here with me. I thank You that You are always with me. I come to You today as Your child, asking You to show Yourself to me. In Your Word, You say that You will come to me and that I will see You. I thank You for Your very great and precious promises to me. I want to know You more and I want to see You

Now that you have committed your time to Him in prayer, close your eyes and ask the Holy Spirit to bring to mind a memory. It may be a good memory, a bad memory, or even a shameful one. It may be a childhood memory or even one from earlier today. Give the Holy Spirit free reign to bring up whatever He wants!

Now that you are settled in that memory, ask Jesus to show you where He was. He is always with us, so He was there! Take your time. There’s no rush. When you see Him, take note of where He is, what He is doing, and especially, what He looks like, which encompasses His physical description as well as the expression(s) on His face. Stay in this place, just observing. He may speak to you or otherwise communicate His heart to you. Take note of every detail and thank Him for showing Himself to you. If you’re anything like me, your heart will have been touched and even healed in the most tender of ways. Tomorrow, we will talk more about how to see Jesus for the rest of your life, the importance of seeing Him for the rest of your life, and how to help your kids to see Jesus.

Blessings and Love,

Linda S.
