Mom to Mom with Deb

“And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of the fullness of God.” Ephesians 3:17b-19

Hello, Dearly Beloved Daughter of the King,

Oh, how my heart wishes to meet you in person—to share our prayers and our stories. My story may not have begun with a sweet “Once upon a time,” but it does end with the delightful phrase, “She lived happily ever after.”

You see, my childhood and teen years were filled with difficulty and sadness. My mother was an alcoholic who made many mistakes and emotionally checked out on me when I was 10. She eventually left this world to go to the great beyond—to eternity, when I was only 20. As you can imagine,  without a mother, I went on to make many mistakes myself as well. I have painful regrets and hurts, but one thing is for sure: I know what it is like to feel lost and alone, and I never, ever want to feel that way again.

The “she lived happily ever after” part of my story is by far my favorite—it’s the life I get to live since I came to know Jesus Christ as my Savior, and began my journey with His great love leading the way. Though not perfect, and still filled with trials, my life is now defined by the unfathomable love of Jesus. His love is so wide and long and high and deep that the Bible says in Ephesians 3:17-19 that we have to pray to even understand it. That’s an incredible love, my friend.

When I realized that we need to pray to even understand the great love of Jesus, I began to pray this little passage of Scripture each day and ask God to help me understand this amazing love. I want to live life to the full, just like the end of this passage says, “That you may be filled to the measure of the fullness of God.”

Sweet one, are you perhaps like me, with a hard story to tell? Let the love of Jesus wash over you. Commit to praying each day, asking Jesus to help you understand and live your life based on the firm foundation of His love. Then, sit back and watch that love begin to change you from the inside out and transform your life. Only the love of Jesus can do that.
